On Friday, July 15th at 7:00 pm, the “Breaking Convention” Summer Soirée, an amazing fundraiser on the Barnsdall Art Park’s cultural campus, will offer attendees a memorable night and a celebration of a multimedia exhibition by artist Aaron Axelrod over a three-day period.
For those who may not know, Axelrod is a unique artist worth paying attention to. His fairytale, psychedelic, and esoteric inspirations have led to eye-opening art that has been not only been featured in museums throughout the United States, but has been underscored in partnerships with Disney, Coachella, and more.
And so the evening of the 15th will kick off the following two days – on July 16th and 17th – when “Dark Matter,” Axelrod’s oeuvre, will be highlighted by a nearly 700,000 Swarovski Crystal Collaboration art piece, and a panoramic visual experience that will projection map the historic, 1921-built Hollyhock house on site. Axelrod’s artistic wares on display will also be comprised of paintings, photography, as well as other video art. It will, thus, amount to 40 pieces overall that will be defined by eight distinct themes.
Some of these themes will include “Melting Rainbows,” a performance piece that was spotlighted in a commercial on MTV; “Freedom of the Press,” a smörgåsbord of pastel paintings of muddled news channels; and “String Theory,” a pastiche-infused array of multimedia neon and abstract resin sculptures.
Certainly, deserving artists like Axelrod, and others, would not have the platform to express themselves without fundraisers such as the one transpiring on July 15th. The “Breaking Convention” Summer Soirée event, which will be sponsored by Baxter, Bombet Hospitality Group and, of course, Swarovski, will bequeath guests with not only Axelrod’s genius, but varied musical performances, including ones by DJs, a virtuoso violinist, and a children’s choir. In addition, patrons will get to delight in a delectable dinner that will be curated by executive chefs from preeminent Los Angeles restaurants Terrine, Faith & Flower, Hanjip, and Viviane.
Those who attend the July 15th gala, which will take place on Hollyhock House’s West Lawn, should wear their best cocktail attire.
General admission is $75 in advance and $100 at the door. VIP admission is $500 and will include Barnsdall swag bags as well as a Barnsdall Art Park Foundation Premier Membership.
