Dîner en Blanc’s Elegant L.A. Return Paints Beverly Hills in Brilliant White

Date:

After a seven-year hiatus, one of Los Angeles’ most distinctive social gatherings has been revived. Last seen at the Santa Monica Pier in 2019, Dîner en Blanc returned on Saturday, August 1st, 2026, transforming Crescent Drive and the adjoining Beverly Hills Civic Center grounds into a splendorous sea of white.

Shrouded in secrecy until mere hours before guests departed for the setting, the celebrated French-inspired outdoor dining experience once again reminded attendees why it has earned such an enthusiastic following both locally and internationally. The sold-out evening welcomed approximately 1,100 guests, including Beverly Hills council members and Mayor Craig A. Corman, who joined participants in enjoying the food, fashion, music, and camaraderie amid quintessential Southern California scenery.

Part of Dîner en Blanc’s enduring appeal is that no one knows exactly where the evening will unfold until just a few hours beforehand. Guests first assemble at designated departure points throughout the city before being led by volunteer table leaders to the secret venue, preserving a sense of anticipation that has become inseparable from the experience itself.

Now in its 39th year, Dîner en Blanc continues a legacy that began in Paris in 1988, when wearing white made it easier to spot friends in crowded parks. That concept has remained steadfast, upheld by the requirement that all must wear pure white. In other words, off-white shades — be it eggshell, ivory, or cream — are highly discouraged. The same attention extends to the tables themselves, where white linens, chairs, dinnerware, and thoughtfully curated décor combine to create a spectacular visual tableau.

The Beverly Hills setting proved especially well suited to the occasion. Residents could be seen pausing to admire the spectacle, while tourists aboard sightseeing buses photographed the elaborate gathering.

As daylight gradually faded into dusk, the atmosphere became unmistakably celebratory. Oodles of white cloth napkins rose and swirled in unison, officially signaling the start of dinner in one of the event’s most cherished traditions. Live French and internationally inspired music filled the air throughout the evening before giving way to a deejay who turned the stylish dinner into an energetic happening. Long sparklers created a dazzling display as guests abandoned their tables for the dance floor.

Beyond dinner itself, attendees found plenty to discover throughout the evening. A tarot card reader offered fortunes, a portrait artist sketched guests in naturalistic fashion, glitter face art added playful embellishments, and a roaming mime delighted onlookers with effortless juggling. Elsewhere, a 360-degree video experience and dedicated photo ops ensured there was no shortage of entertainment. Illuminated “DEB LA” letters and projected Beverly Hills “B” emblems added a striking nighttime flourish to an already unforgettable setting.

The event’s return to Los Angeles did not happen overnight. Monica Castaneda, one of three hosts of Dîner en Blanc Los Angeles working closely with Dîner en Blanc International, explained that bringing the event back after its absence required nearly a year of securing permits and working with the City of Beverly Hills.

Beverly Hills itself was selected deliberately. As Castaneda elaborated, the setting provided both an unmistakable visual identity and an opportunity to showcase one of Southern California’s most recognizable civic landmarks. “City Hall is an iconic building and we needed a backdrop to show how beautiful [Beverly Hills] is. It’s a collaborative community effort.”

That philosophy extended to this year’s presentation, which embraced the theme “Une Soirée Parisienne – La Belle Époque.” Decorative masquerade masks, distributed to attendees throughout the evening, reflected what Castaneda said will remain a permanent hallmark of the Los Angeles edition. “The event will have a different theme every year — this year it’s ‘La Belle Époque,’ though L.A. will always have a masquerade component.”

For Castaneda, however, the evening’s greatest success was measured less by the décor or the locale than by the company of others. “We’ve had a great turnout — I love you that you get to eat with your neighbor or just eat with someone you don’t know and dance the night away.”

Equally impressive is what happens once the festivities conclude. In keeping with one of Dîner en Blanc’s longstanding principles, guests pack away everything they brought — from tables and chairs to china and decorations — leaving the venue as clean as they discovered it. The “leave no trace” expectation has become as fundamental to the event as its celebrated dress code, reinforcing the idea that style and civic responsibility can comfortably coexist.

Now held in more than 120 cities across 40 countries, Dîner en Blanc has evolved into a global tradition while still allowing each host city to leave its own imprint. Los Angeles has always been a natural fit, pairing the city’s affinity for outdoor gatherings with its appreciation for creativity, style, and shared experiences. Previous editions have reimagined certain sites, such as Rodeo Drive, Pasadena City Hall, Exposition Park Rose Garden, and the Santa Monica Pier, with Beverly Hills now adding another memorable chapter to the ritual.

Judging by the enthusiasm surrounding this year’s long-awaited return, Angelenos are ready to welcome it back — and, according to Castaneda, they won’t have to wait long, as the next Los Angeles-area installment is expected in March 2027.
