Descanso Gardens has a wonderful way of using the dusk in its favor. No sooner does the last jack-o’-lantern from Carved flicker out at the end of October than the La Cañada Flintridge oasis strings the night with color again — this time for its beloved winter spectacle, Enchanted Forest of Light, returning November 16th through January 4th, 2026 (closed Nov. 17th, Nov. 27th, Dec. 24th–25th).

Where Carved leans autumnal and pumpkin-forward, Enchanted is its cool-weather counterpart: a one-mile, after-dark pathway filled with large-scale, colorfully lit installations that turn the garden into a living canvas. Guests, who are advised to purchase tickets in advance, enter in timed intervals every 30 minutes from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and may stay until 10 p.m., keeping the flow unhurried for families, couples, and anyone interested in a photo opportunity.

The 2025 edition brings back the displays that regulars come back to year after year. The stained-glass cottages by Tom Fruin shimmer like fairytale keeps, while HYBYCOZO’s geometric creations scatter radiant patterns across the landscape. Both artists, recognized internationally for transforming light into architectural storytelling, exemplify how Descanso Gardens continues to blend contemporary art with the natural world, making each installation as much about creative expression as seasonal celebration. The Flower Power Promenade blooms with luminous petals, and the Ancient Forest glows with soft light and mist that transform its towering trees into sentinels of fog and color. Even the Descanso Railroad joins the enchantment with custom holiday lighting that loops through the gardens like a moving ornament.

Beyond admiring the artistry, visitors are invited to play a part in it. Motion-responsive pathways, interactive lighting elements, and sound-activated displays create moments of quiet surprise; for instance, a footstep can awaken a cascade of color. It’s this interplay between audience and environment that turns Enchanted from a light show into a living, participatory activity.

A fresh twist debuts this season with Music & Mixology Nights on December 10th and 11th, featuring live performances by Yachty by Nature, the six-piece yacht-rock band known for its easygoing jams from the late-’70s and early-’80s. Shows at 6 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. take place on the Main Lawn, where guests can sip seasonal craft cocktails while soaking in the ambiance. The performances are included with regular admission, turning an already sublime walk into a full evening experience.

Admission prices mirrors Carved: Adults $27–$45 non-members | $20–$38 members; Children (2–12) $17–$30 non-members | $10–$23 members; under 2 free.
Those eager for a first look can attend the Enchanted Preview Party on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 7 to 10 p.m., featuring early access, gourmet food, cocktails, and live entertainment. Tickets are $275 per person, with proceeds supporting Descanso’s programming and garden care.

As it was for Carved, the new Farmhouse at Descanso Gardens restaurant will be open during Enchanted, with reservations available via OpenTable — perfect for dinner before or after your walk. Parking at Descanso remains free, and comfortable footwear and warm layers are recommended for the trail.

Ultimately, Enchanted Forest of Light, renowned for its harmonious mix of art, illumination, and landscape, once again transforms Descanso Gardens into a haven of winter radiance. Enchanted picks up where Carved left off, propelling the magic forward into the holiday season, offering Angelenos and other visitors a spectacular and uplifting escape. Whether you’re returning for another year, or experiencing it for the first time, there’s no better way to close out 2025 than wandering Descanso’s glowing trails.
